UCLA junior linebacker Spencer Havner was named Thursday to the second-team Walter Camp Football Foundation All-America team. It is the 115th squad honored by the organization. The team is selected by the vote of the head coaches and sports information directors of the nation's 117 Division I-A football schools.
Havner, one of 12 semifinalists for both the Butkus Award and the Rotary Lombardi Award, led the Pac-10 Conference in tackles with his total of 125 stops this season. The Bruin co-captain enters the bowl season second in the nation in solo tackles (7.64 per game) and seventh (tied) in total tackles (11.36 per game). His total of 125 total tackles ranks 10th (tied) on the all-time single-season list.
A three-year starter, Havner has made 303 tackles in his career and ranks 11th on that list. He has eight career interceptions and has returned three for touchdowns, including one this season against San Diego State. He totaled a career-best 17 tackles in the Bruin win at Illinois earlier this year which was the most by a UCLA player since Robert Thomas, now with the Rams, made 18 in 2001 against Washington State.
