LOS ANGELES - UCLA has been rated among the top 25 teams entering fall baseball workouts, as rated by Rivals.com. The Bruins join Pac-10 foes Arizona State, Arizona and Oregon State in the pre-fall top 25 selection.
UCLA will play 15 games against six teams which have been selected in the Rivals.com pre-fall top 25 rankings. The Bruins will also square off against non-conference powers Cal State Fullerton, UC Irvine and San Diego.
Fourth-year head coach John Savage and the Bruin baseball program welcome the addition of 11 incomers - 10 freshmen and one junior college transfer - who will arrive on campus when fall quarter classes resume at the conclusion of September. UCLA also returns 23 letterwinners and two redshirt freshmen this season.
Last spring, UCLA advanced to the NCAA Super Regionals for the first time since 2000 and finished the season with a 33-28 overall record and a third-place Pac-10 finish. Eight Bruins earned All-Pac-10 recognition, as five players were named to the All-Pac-10 team and three student-athletes gained honorable mention status.
The Bruins open their 2008 campaign with a three-game home series against Oklahoma at Jackie Robinson Stadium on Friday, Feb. 22. UCLA begins its Pac-10 slate at Arizona on Friday, March 28.
