STANFORD, Calif. - The No. 5 UCLA women's water polo defeated No. 3 Hawai'I, 9-8, in a non-conference match at the Stanford Invitational on Saturday evening. Grace Reynolds and Priscilla Orozco each led the Bruins (4-2) with two goals in the non-conference victory against Hawai'i (4-2).
Each team scored two goals in the first quarter, before UCLA outscored Hawai'i by a 3-1 margin in the second period. Leading 5-3 after two quarters, the Bruins raced to a 9-6 advantage through three periods. Hawai'i outscored UCLA by a 2-0 margin in the final quarter.
Hawai'i was led by two goals from Monika Eggens. The Rainbow Wahine also received one goal each from Leonie van der Molen, Carmen Eggens, Dagmar Genee and Helena Slagter.
UCLA opens day two of the Stanford Invitational against No. 9 Arizona State on Sunday, Feb. 7. Game time is 9:10 a.m. at Stanford's Baker Pool.
