Bruins Head to Ojai for Pac-10 Championships: With the dual-match regular season now complete and the NCAA Tournament still three weeks away, members of the UCLA men's and women's tennis teams will now focus their attention on attaining some individual honors, as several players will be in action this week at the Pac-10 Championships, taking place from April 28-May 1 in Ojai, Calif. Draws for the tournament were released on Tuesday evening and can be accessed by clicking HERE. Please visit www.ojaitourney.org for more information about the event.
Last Year in Ojai
The UCLA women enjoyed tremendous success at last year's Pac-10 Championships, sweeping all four events. Yasmin Schnack became the first UCLA player in history to sweep the singles and doubles titles in Ojai in the same season. In the main draw singles final, she upset top-seeded Hilary Barte, 6-4, 7-5. Schnack then teamed with Andrea Remynse for a 6-1, 6-0 win over top-seeded Barte and Lindsay Burdette in the doubles final. Sophomore Nina Pantic was last year's Invitational singles champion, defeating teammate Carling Seguso, 6-2, 6-0. Seguso didn't leave Ojai without a championship, however, as she and freshman Stephanie Hoffpauir claimed the Invitational doubles crown with an 8-6 victory over Washington's Aleksandra Malovic and Samantha Smith. On the men's side, UCLA fell just short in its bid for two titles last year. Amit Inbar and Nick Meister fell to top-seeded Robert Farah and Steve Johnson of USC, 6-3, 7-6(4) in the main draw doubles final, while Alex Brigham was beaten in the Invitational singles final by USC's JT Sundling, 7-5, 7-6(4).
New Rankings Released: The UCLA women fell two spots from No. 4 to No. 6 in the latest ITA Team Rankings released on Tuesday. The UCLA men, who lost 4-3 to USC last week, fell from No. 9 to No. 12. Individual rankings were also released. For a complete summary of all the rankings click here: Women / Men
