#7 UCLA Rebounds With Sweep of Fordham

FULLERTON, Calif. - One night after a stunning loss to Cal State Fullerton, the seventh-ranked Bruins bounced back with a sweep of Fordham on Saturday afternoon. Set scores were 25-12, 25-14, 25-27. Junior Dicey McGraw led the Bruins with 12 kills, while freshman Mari Hole added 10 kills and seven digs.

The Bruins improve to 10-2 on the season and face Long Beach State at 5 p.m. Free audio will be available on UCLABruins.com. Fordham falls to 8-6.

Sophomore Stephanie Nucci had 30 assists, while sophomore Katie Camp posted seven kills, five digs and five blocks. Sophomore Sara Sage added four kills and six blocks, freshman Rachael Kidder had seven kills and six blocks and freshman Bojana Todorovic posted 16 digs as the libero. UCLA rested regulars Amanda Gil, Lauren Cook and Kaitlin Sather.

The Rams scored the first point of the match, but the lead was short-lived, as the Bruins came back with seven of the next eight points to take a 7-2 advantage. Todorovic served two aces during the run, Hole added one ace, McGraw and Camp had a combo block and three Fordham errors led to the seven points. Following a Fordham sideout, UCLA scored five in a row and eight of nine to increase its advantage to 11 at 15-4. Camp had four of the points on three kills and a solo block, Hole and Nucci added kills and Kidder posted an ace.

Fordham came back with three in a row to cut its deficit to eight at 15-7, but a 6-1 UCLA run brought its lead to a set-best 13 at 21-8. Sage had a pair of kills during the run, Camp and sophomore Lainey Gera posted one spike apiece and Nucci served an ace. The Bruins had six service aces in the first, including one on set point by Kidder to win the opener 25-12. Camp had four kills and two blocks in the first, while Sage had three kills. The Bruins out-hit the Rams .323 to .094.

Just like the first set, the Rams took an early lead with two of the first three points, but it was all Bruins after that. Tied at three, UCLA netted eight of the next 11 to go ahead 11-6. Kidder played a part in three points on an ace and two combo blocks, while Hole had three kills. The Rams scored four in a row to cut their deficit to one at 11-10, but the Bruins responded with a 9-1 run to take a 20-11 advantage. McGraw had a pair of kills, while Kidder and Sage each had a kill and a block.

Leading 20-13, the Bruins scored five of the last six to win it 25-14. McGraw had two kills during the last run, as did Camp, who served the set clincher. The Bruins hit .207 in the second and held the Rams to a -.074 percentage. McGraw had six kills in the second, Hole had three and Kidder posted a kill, two aces and three blocks.

The third set was a close one, but the Bruins pulled away at the end to complete the sweep. UCLA scored six of the first nine points to take an early advantage. Kidder had two kills and a block during the run. The Bruins never led by more than three though, and at 11-8, the Rams went on a 6-2 run to go ahead 14-13. UCLA responded with six of the next eight to go up 19-16. Hole had a pair of kills, Sage had two blocks and Kidder posted a kill and a roof.

The Rams wouldn't quit though, tying the set again at 19 and taking the lead back at 22-21. Fordham had its first set point at 24-22, but UCLA rallied with the next three on a Nucci kill, a Sage/Nucci block and a Camp ace to make it 25-24 Bruins. After a sideout by the Rams tied it at 25, Hole had a kill to give the Bruins their second set point and a Sage solo block won the set 27-25 and completed the sweep. Kidder had five kills and three blocks in the third, Hole added six kills and McGraw posted five spikes. The Bruins out-hit the Rams .267 to .154.

Katie Wells led the Rams with nine kills, as Fordham hit .082 as a team.
