Senior diver Tess Schofield has been named the Pac-10 Women's Diver of the Month for December after leading the Bruin divers at the Texas Invitational last month. The Mission Viejo native placed third on the platform with a season-high score of 245.60. Schofield also finished 22nd on the three-meter (215.60) and 25th on the one-meter (204.20).
This is the second Pac-10 Diver of the Month honor for Schofield after also being honored in December of 2006.
Schofield and sophomore Morgan Erpenbeck have been invited to the World Championship Team Selection Camp taking place in February in Columbus, OH. The duo were invited based on their 10th and 12th place finishes at last summer's U.S. National Championships, held at the Rose Bowl Aquatic Center.
They will not attend as it falls at a very difficult period during the NCAA season (namely two days prior to UCLA's dual meet against USC).
"I am very proud of those two," said Stebbins. "This invitation is a compliment to both of their diligent workloads through a very difficult period. I am sorry they will not be able to attend, but after discussing the ramifications of taking that much time away from the team, we all came to the conclusion that the right thing to do would be to stay home and prepare our best for the end of this NCAA season."
The divers will next compete this Saturday and Sunday at the Rose Bowl Aquatic Center in Pasadena as they host the UCLA Diving Invitational.
