UCLA's Open Eight Finishes First at San Diego Crew Classic

SAN DIEGO - The UCLA women's rowing team raced to one first-place finish on Sunday, as the Bruins' open eight finished ahead of USC, Drexel, Santa Clara and UC Irvine. The Bruins' varsity boats finished fifth and sixth, respectively, in the Grand Final of each event.

UCLA's varsity boat raced to a fifth-place finish, crossing the finish line 0.11 seconds behind fourth-place Stanford. Washington, USC and Washington State rounded out the top three.

The Bruins' second varsity crew finished sixth in the Grand Final event. Washington cruised to a first-place finish, posting a time of 6:36.50. UCLA clocked in at 6:47.78, finishing 2.56 seconds after fifth-place Stanford.

The first-place open eight crew registered a time of 7:07.77, finishing more than four seconds ahead of crosstown rival USC. The Trojans crossed the finish line at 7:12.10, while Drexel posted a time of 7:18.41.

UCLA returns to action at the Stanford Invite in two weeks (April 19-20).
