BRUINS OPEN SIX-GAME HOME STRETCH

The Bruins will host 13 games at Easton Stadium this week, playing in six. The homestand opens with today's game against Loyola Marymount before UCLA hosts the Stacy Winsberg Memorial Tournament this weekend. Long Beach State, Illinois State, Loyola-Chicago and Florida will participate in the Winsberg.

STACY WINSBERG MEMORIAL TOURNAMENT
Stacy Winsberg, who served as strength and conditioning coach for the U.S. Women's Softball National Team at the 1999 Pan American Games and the 2000 Olympics, passed away on the morning of Dec. 12, 2002, from a cerebral blood clot. Winsberg had been battling lung cancer since early that fall.

A four-year letterwinner at UCLA, Winsberg played collegiate softball for the Bruins and was a member of three national championship teams (1982, 1984, 1985). She was also a two-time ASA All-American (1984, 1985) and competed internationally in the Tri-National Tournament (China) and Japan Cup in 1985.

In addition to her work with the U.S. National Team, Winsberg owned Premier Sports Training and served as a conditioning consultant in Northern California. She was a licensed therapist and her clients included Olympic gold medalists, NCAA Division I athletic programs, and ASA teams and athletes.

In 1993, she was inducted into the Southern California Jewish Hall of Fame. This weekend marks the Fifth Annual Stacy Winsberg Memorial Tournament.

BRUINS WIN THREE IN PALM SPRINGS
UCLA posted its best weekend of the young season at the Palm Springs Classic, falling to top-ranked Tennessee but posting victories over Michigan State, Maryland and No. 7/12 Northwestern.

The Bruins opened the weekend's play with an 8-0 six-inning win over Michigan State on Feb. 23, featuring 14 UCLA hits, just one for extra bases. Freshman 3B Julie Burney had the only extra-base hit of the game for UCLA, connecting on her second home run of the season with one out in the bottom of the fourth inning.

A disappointing performance against the Lady Vols would follow with Anjelica Selden striking out eight batters but UCLA had just five hits in the contest and the offensive highlight of the game was a solo home run by Krista Colburn to lead off the third inning.

Saturday saw the Bruins win 6-0 over Maryland with three Bruins connecting on home runs. Lisa Dodd hit her fourth home run of the season, Jodie Legaspi hit the third grand slam of her career and Megan Langenfeld followed that accomplishment with a solo shot of her own.

The Bruins rebounded on Sunday with their best game of the season thus far, an 8-6 victory over No. 7/12 Northwestern. Legaspi hit a grand slam home run for the second time in as many days, the fourth of her career. That paired with a two-run homer by Dodd helped give Selden enough support to earn the victory for a 10-strikeout performance in the circle.
