Bruins in Major League Soccer - Week Nine

Each week, uclabruins.com will update and highlight select UCLA players' progress during the current MLS season. Games highlighted are from Apr. 30-May 6. The Bruins lead all universities with 23 alumni in MLS.

Chad Barrett (Los Angeles Galaxy; Years played at UCLA: 2003-04)
Chad Barrett made his third start of the year and played 58 minutes in the Galaxy's 2-0 loss to Seattle on Wednesday night. He was subbed off in the 58th minute for Mike Magee and did not record an offensive statistic in the match. Barrett then came on as a substitute and played 22 minutes in the Galaxy's 1-0 loss to New York on Saturday. He came on in the 68th minute for Edson Buddle and recorded two shots in his 22 minutes of play.
Galaxy record: 3-5-1, 10 points, 7th place in Western Conference

Barrett's 2012 MLS season stats: 9GP/3GS, 308 minutes, 1 assist, 8 shots

Tony Beltran (Real Salt Lake; Years played at UCLA: 2006-07)
Beltran started at right back and played 90 minutes for Real Salt Lake in their 2-1 victory over the Revolution on Saturday. He did not record an offensive statistic in the match, but helped the Salt Lake defense hold New England to seven shots on goal. He has started all 11 of Real Salt Lake's games this season and has played a large role in helping the team to a second place standing in the Western Conference.
Real Salt Lake record: 7-3-1, 22 points, 2nd place in Western Conference

Beltran's 2012 MLS season stats: 11GP/11GS, 974 minutes, 2 assists, 4 shots, 2 SOG

David Estrada (Seattle Sounders FC; Years played at UCLA: 2006-09)
David Estrada started and played all 90 minutes at forward in both of Seattle's matches this week. On Wednesday against the Galaxy, Estrada recorded one shot in the match as the Sounders defeated Los Angeles 2-0 at home. On Saturday against Philadelphia, the Sounders won by the score of 1-0 as again Estrada contributed one shot in the match. He leads Seattle with four goals this season and has started in all eight of their matches.
Sounders record: 6-1-1, 19 points, 3rd place in Western Conference

Estrada's 2012 MLS season stats: 8GP/8GS, 693 minutes, 4 goals, 19 shots, 8 SOG

Benny Feilhaber (New England Revolution; Years played at UCLA: 2003-04)
Benny Feilhaber started and played all 90 minutes in both of New England's matches this week. On Wednesday against the Rapids, Feilhaber recorded two shots and played great defense for the Revolution as they defeated Colorado 2-1. Then on Saturday at Real Salt Lake, Feilhaber recorded four shots, including two on goal, in New England's 2-1 loss. These were the first two starts for Feilhaber since returning from injury back on Apr. 14.
Revolution record: 3-6, 9 points, 6th place in Eastern Conference

Feilhaber's 2012 MLS season stats: 6GP/4GS, 411 minutes, 12 shots, 5 SOG

Kevin Hartman (FC Dallas; Years played at UCLA: 1995-96)
Hartman made seven saves in FC Dallas' 2-0 home loss to Colorado on Sunday. Hartman was put in a tough position as Dallas went down to nine men after earning two red cards, but he fought valiantly and made numerous great saves to keep Dallas in the match. Currently, Hartman has 30 saves in just seven games this season and has one shutout thus far.

Hartman's 2012 MLS season stats: 7GP/7GS, 630 minutes, 30 saves, 11 GA, 1.57 GAA

Kamani Hill (Colorado Rapids; Years played at UCLA: 2004-05)
Hill came on as a substitute and played 15 minutes in Colorado's 2-1 loss to the Revolution on Wednesday. He did not record an offensive statistic in his 15 minutes of play. Then on Sunday, Hill assisted on the Rapids' second goal of the match as Colorado beat FC Dallas 2-0 on the road. He came on in the 14th minute as a substitute for the injured Omar Cummings and almost scored in the 66th minute when he took a ball in the box and put a shot on net from close range. But fellow UCLA alum Kevin Hartman made a great diving save to keep Hill out of the net. He did earn the second assist on Martin Rivero's goal in the 74th minute to put the Rapids up 2-0 and seal their fifth win of the season. It was Hill's first assist of the year and he recorded four total shots (one on goal) in the match.
Rapids record: 5-5, 15 points, 5th place in Western Conference

Hill's 2012 MLS season stats: 7GP/1GS, 232 minutes, 3 goals, 1 assist, 10 shots, 5 SOG

Patrick Ianni (Seattle Sounders FC; Years played at UCLA: 2003-05)
Ianni started and played all 90 minutes at center back for Seattle in their 1-0 home win over the Philadelphia Union. Ianni and the rest of the Seattle defense were tremendous on Saturday, holding the Union to just a single shot on goal and six shots total. It was the fifth shutout of the year for the Sounders and Ianni has played in four of those shutouts.
Sounders record: 6-1-1, 19 points, 3rd place in Western Conference

Ianni's 2012 MLS season stats: 6GP/6GS, 540 minutes

Chance Myers (Sporting Kansas City; Years played at UCLA: 2006-07)
Myers started and played all 90 minutes at right back in Sporting Kansas City's 2-0 loss to the Montreal Impact. Myers recorded two shots in the match as Kansas City fell for just the second time this year. Sporting Kansas City still has the best record in the Eastern Conference and Myers has played an integral role in helping them achieve that standing, starting every single game thus far for Kansas City.

Myers's 2012 MLS season stats: 9GP/9GS, 810 minutes, 2 assists, 8 shots, 1 SOG

Matt Reis (New England Revolution; Years played at UCLA: 1994-97)
Matt Reis picked up the 100th win of his career on Wednesday as he recorded six saves in New England's 2-1 home win over Colorado. Reis faced 19 total shots in the match and shut out the Rapids for the final 60 minutes of the match to earn the victory. Then on Saturday against Real Salt Lake, Reis made five saves in New England's 2-1 loss to Salt Lake. In the match, he became the first Revolution goalkeeper to reach the 20,000 minute mark for the club and is tied with Chivas USA's Dan Kennedy for fourth in the league in saves with 33 in nine games. Reis has also recorded at least five saves in each of the last three games.

Reis's 2012 MLS season stats: 9GP/9GS, 810 minutes, 33 saves, 12 GA, 1.33 GAA

Nick Rimando (Real Salt Lake; Years played at UCLA: 1997-99)
Nick Rimando made six saves and allowed one goal in Real Salt Lake's 2-1 victory over New England on Saturday. Rimando faced 13 total shots in the match and made a great diving stop in the 70th minute to preserve the lead for Real Salt Lake. Just a minute later, he stopped the Revolution again, this time making a huge lunging save on a Blake Brettschneider header in the box to again keep the lead for Salt Lake. Rimando leads all of MLS with 36 saves on the year and has just a 1.09 GAA thus far for Salt Lake.

Rimando's 2012 MLS season stats: 11GP/11GS, 990 minutes, 36 saves, 12 GA, 1.09 GAA

Andy Rose (Seattle Sounders FC; Years played at UCLA: 2008-11)
Andy Rose earned his first MLS start for the Sounders on Saturday and helped lead Seattle to a 1-0 win over Philadelphia. He started at central midfield and played 61 minutes before being subbed off for Eddie Johnson in the 61st minute. Rose almost earned his first MLS goal when he took a corner kick in the 47th minute and put a great header on goal. But unfortunately for Rose, the ball went off the crossbar and he was denied the goal. He recorded two shots in the match as the Sounders earned their fourth straight win.
Sounders record: 6-1-1, 19 points, 3rd place in Western Conference

Rose's 2012 MLS season stats: 1GP/1GS, 61 minutes, 2 shots

Kelyn Rowe (New England Revolution; Years played at UCLA: 2010-11)
Rowe started and played 59 minutes at midfielder in New England's 2-1 loss to Real Salt Lake on Saturday. Rowe was subbed off in the 59th minute for Fernando Cardenas and recorded one shot in his 59 minutes of play.
Revolution record: 3-6, 9 points, 6th place in Eastern Conference
This week's Revolution schedule: May 12 - vs. Vancouver Whitecaps
Rowe's 2012 MLS season stats: 8GP/8GS, 599 minutes, 1 goal, 14 shots, 9 SOG

Michael Stephens (Los Angeles Galaxy; Years played at UCLA: 2006-09)
Michael Stephens came on as a substitute and played 15 minutes in the Galaxy's 1-0 loss to the New York Red Bulls on Saturday. Stephens entered the match in the 75th minute for Tommy Meyer and did not record a statistic in his 15 minutes of play.
