Walnut Creek, Calif. - UCLA senior defender Shawn Singh was named Bank of the West Pac-12 Men's Soccer Player of the Week for the week of November 1-7, Commissioner Larry Scott announced today.
The Bakersfield, Calif., native came up big for the Bruins on offense and defense as they clinched the 2011 Pac-12 Championship over the weekend. In Friday's 2-0 win over California that secured the Conference title, Singh and the UCLA defense allowed no shots on goal. On Sunday, Singh scored his first goal of the year, helping the Bruins defeat Stanford 3-0. For his efforts, Singh was also named to Top Drawer Soccer's National Team of the Week. UCLA has not allowed a goal in its last four games, with Singh playing a key role in each of those shutouts.
This is Singh's first weekly honor and UCLA's 45th all-time Player of the Week.
The Bruins finish the regular season at San Diego State this Saturday, November 12 at 2 p.m. PT.
