Ida Storm, Turquoise Thompson and Ashlea McLaughlin are the first Bruin women to punch their tickets to the NCAA Championships after qualifying on day two of the NCAA Preliminary Round in Eugene, OR.

McLaughlin qualified for her first NCAA Championship as an individual competitor as she clinched an automatic spot with a third-place run in heat three of the 400m. Her time of 53.43 was the ninth-fastest mark of the day. Senior Joy Eaton, also in the 400m, was seventh in heat one and 14th overall (54.08) and does not advance to the NCAA Championships.

Thompson easily advanced to the NCAA Championships in the 400m hurdles as she won her heat by .81 seconds, running 56.06. That mark was also the fastest time of the day. Last year, Thompson did not advance to Nationals in the hurdles after being hampered by a hamstring. She did compete on the ninth-place 4x400m relay at last year's outdoor meet.

In the hammer, freshman Ida Storm qualified for her first NCAA Outdoor meet with a seventh-place finish on Friday. She started off the competition with a foul thrown into the netting and then came back in the second round with a toss of 186-2, which put her one spot out of the finals (13th). On her last throw during the prelims, Storm posted a solid mark of 195-10 to guarantee her three more throws in the competition. In the final, she improved to 198-0 and was seventh overall to advance to the NCAA meet. She is the first female thrower since Kamaiya Warren in 2006 to advance to the NCAA Outdoor meet.

In the 100m hurdles, senior Lindsay Rowe was third in heat four to pick up an automatic qualifying spot in the quarterfinal rounds on Saturday. She was 25th overall in a time of 13.88.

In the pole vault, junior Tori Anthony finished 15th with a clearance of 13-3.50. She does not advance to the NCAA meet. Sophomore Allison Koressel finished 21st with a clearance of 12-1.50, while teammate Liz Goodrich finished in a tie for 31st with a clearance of 12-1.50.

Competition concludes on Saturday as Mariah Gibson and Alexis Walker compete in the high jump (12:15 pm), Rowe competes in the quarterfinals of the hurdles (2:05 pm), Shannon Murakami runs in the 5000m (3:05 pm) and the 4x400m relay races at 4:25 pm.
