STANFORD, Calif. - The No. 4 UCLA women's water polo team earned a third-place finish at the Stanford Invitational on Sunday afternoon with a 10-8 victory over No. 3 California at Avery Stadium.
The Bruins (8-1) defeated Indiana, 9-4, in their final round-robin contest on Sunday morning before the contest against the Golden Bears.
Senior Priscilla Orozco led UCLA with four goals in the victory over California on Sunday afternoon, finishing the two-day tournament with a team-high 12 goals.
Against California, UCLA led 3-2 after the first quarter. Each team recorded three goals in the second quarter, allowing the Bruins to assume a 6-5 halftime advantage. UCLA pushed its margin to 9-6 after three quarters and held on for a 10-8 victory.
Junior goalkeeper Caitlin Dement tallied four saves against California.
In the victory against Indiana, UCLA led by one goal, 2-1, after the first quarter. The Bruins used a 3-1 scoring run in the second frame to assume a 5-2 lead at the break. UCLA outscored Indiana, 4-2, in the second half to win the contest, 9-4.
UCLA returns to action in the Triton Invitational next weekend (Feb. 12-13) on the campus of UC San Diego.
