Horton named First-Team All-American

UCLA senior safety Chris Horton has been named first-team All-America by The Sporting News.

Horton, who was also named first-team All-Pac-10, ranks second on the squad with 83 tackles and his average of 6.92 ranks 22nd (tied) in the Pac-10 Conference. He has made 37 tackles in the last five games. He also ranks fifth (tied) on the team with 7.0 tackles for loss.

In the 2007 opener at Stanford, Horton made six tackles, including five solos. Against BYU, he had five tackles (two solos) and forced a second-quarter fumble that led to a field goal. At Utah, he was second (tied) with nine tackles, including five solos. Against Washington, he made five tackles (four solos), including one for loss and also broke up one pass. At Oregon State, he made six tackles (four solos). Against Notre Dame, he was second on the squad with eight tackles (seven solos). He made seven tackles (six solos) in the win over California.

At Washington State, he made a career-high 16 tackles, including nine solos. He made four solo stops at Arizona. Against Arizona State, he was second on the team with eight tackles (six solos). He recorded the first three sacks of his career and added a fourth tackle for loss. He left the Oregon game in the first quarter due to concussive symptoms after making two tackles (one solo). Against USC, he made seven tackles (six solos), including 2.0 for loss, and also recovered a fumble.
