LOS ANGELES - The ninth-ranked UCLA men's tennis team plays its first two Pac-12 opponents of the 2012 season this weekend, as the Bruins head to the Bay Area for clashes with No. 13 Cal and No. 6 Stanford. The matches, however, will not count in the conference standings. Instead, the Pac-12 counting matches between the teams will take place at UCLA in early April.
UCLA (4-0) is coming off a successful showing at ITA Kick-Off Weekend held at the Los Angeles Tennis Center last week, winning both of its matches to qualify for the 16-team ITA National Team Indoor Championships beginning on Feb. 17 in Charlottesville, Va. The Bruins did not drop a single point in their two matches over the weekend, dispatching of both Alabama and Fresno State by 4-0 scores. The Bruins remained at No. 9 in the country when the most recent ITA rankings were released on Jan. 24. New team rankings are scheduled to be released on Feb. 2. Sophomore Clay Thompson is UCLA's highest ranked singles player at No. 72. He is followed by freshman Marcos Giron (No. 86) and sophomore Adrien Puget (No. 94).
