Bruins Conclude Day One in Ojai

Ojai, Calif. - UCLA's Yasmin Schnack kept her hopes of a Pac-10 Championship alive on Thursday, winning a pair of matches to reach the quarterfinals at the 110th Ojai Valley Tournament at the Ojai Valley Athletic Club.

Schnack, the tournament's No. 2 seed, began the day with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Washington State's Ksenia Googe. She then dispatched of Arizona's Natasha Marks, 6-4, 6-4. Arizona State's Micaela Hein is awaiting Schnack in the third round.

Schnack's doubles partner, Andrea Remynse, didn't fare as well on Thursday, as she dropped a 1-6, 6-3, 6-3 decision to Washington State's Elisabeth Fournier. Remynse was the tournament's No. 5 seed.

In the Invitational singles draw, UCLA's Nina Pantic and Carling Seguso each posted wins to reach the quarterfinals.

Doubles play begins on Friday.
