Merrick and Conway were paired together, and current UCLA Head Coach O.D. Vincent served as Conway's caddy. Merrick posted a 74 (+3) and Conway had a 75 (+4).

Pernice posted the best score of the group, a one-under par 71 and was tied for 33rd place entering Friday's second round. Pavin, who won the event in 1994 and '95, carded a 72 (+1). Waldorf signed for a 75 (+5).

Second round action continues on Friday and players making the 36-hole cut will continue through the weekend.
