Turquoise Thompson and two Bruin alums advanced to the semifinal rounds of the 400m hurdles after competing on day one of the USATF National Championships in Eugene, OR.
Thompson was second in heat one in a time of 56.61 to grab an automatic spot into the semis (top three automatically advanced). She was sixth overall in the competition. Alum Nicole Leach, a two-time NCAA champion, was third in heat two as she clocked 57.01. That time was seventh overall and was also an automatic qualifier to the semis. Another alum, MacKenzie Hill, picked up the final time qualifier as she was 16th overall (58.06) and fifth in heat two.
The semifinal rounds will take place on Friday at 4:45 pm.
In the open 400m, recent graduate Joy Eaton finished fifth in heat three and 21st overall in a time of 55.15.
In the discus competition, which was comprised of trials and a final, Bruin alum Suzy Powell Roos finished fourth overall with a throw of 193-1.
