Nelson and Schofield Lead Bruin Swim & Dive on Final Day of Texas Invite

Results

Senior swimmer Katie Nelson and sophomore diver Tess Schofield led the No. 14 UCLA Bruins on the third and final day at the Texas Invitational on Saturday as both won individual events.

The Bruins finished the meet in seventh-place with 235 points, while Arizona won with 860 points.

Nelson won the 1650 Freestyle, swimming an NCAA "B" qualifier of 16:26.55, just three seconds shy of the automatic time. This was just the first time this season Nelson had competed in this long distance race.

Schofield won the platform diving event with a score of 270.65 after a strong competition in which she scored all 9's on her second dive. It was Schofield's second win on the tower event this season.

Senior Jane Imagane also swam an NCAA "B" qualifer in the 1650 Free, swimming 16:50.87 to finish 14th overall. Imagane's younger sister, Julie Imagane finished 17th overall in a time of 17:13.20, while sophomore Ellen Brooks finished 27th in a time of 17:34.06.

Senior Courtney Iversen finished 16th in the 200 Breast (2:05.35), while sophomore Madeleine Stanton swam an NCAA "B" qualifier and season-best 2;01.13 in the same event to finish 25th overall.

In the 100 Freestyle, sophomore Anna Poteete swam a season-best and NCAA "B" qualifier of 50.24.

Senior Jeana Fuccillo led the Bruins in the 200 Breast, finishing 11th overall in an NCAA "B" qualifier of 2:16.82. Senior Luisa Los-Santos (20th, 2:19.82) and sophomore Kristen Fischer (29th, 2:23.42) swam season-bests in the 200 Breast.

Three Bruins posted season-bests in the 200 Fly - senior Isabel Miesner (15th, 2:04.08), junior Shannon Hackett (21st, 2:03.75), and freshman Hope Thurman (24th, 2:05.66).

The 400 Freestyle Relay capped off the night with a season-best and NCAA "B" qualifier of 3:24.08 to finished ninth overall.

At the U.S. Open in West Lafayette, IN, Kim Vandenberg finished second in her signature event, the 200 Fly, in a time of 2:10.45. Vandenberg had the No. 1 prelim time (2:13.08) heading into the final race. She also finished 41st in the 100 Freestyle in a time of 58.88.

Junior Chiemi Yamamoto, also competing in Indiana, finished 56th in the 200 Breaststroke in a time of 2:44.32.
