Salt Lake City, Utah - UCLA Gymnastics head coach Valorie Kondos Field was honored as the 2012 Pac-12 Gymnastics Coach of the Year. This is her fourth career award. She was previously honored in 1995, 2000 and 2003.
Kondos Field, who is in her 22nd year as UCLA's head coach, is a four-time national coach of the year who has led UCLA to six NCAA titles. This season, she has guided the Bruins to the Pac-12 Championship, a 13-2-1 record, and No. 4 national ranking. The Bruins recorded a national-high 198.050 team score in a win over Arizona State on Feb. 26, the highest score by a UCLA team since 2004 and the first 198 score nation-wide in three years.
The Pac-12 Coach of the Year is voted upon by the conference's head coaches prior to the championship meet.
"It's always exciting to be recognized by your peers, especially in a conference this strong," Kondos Field said. "It's truly an honor."
Oregon State's Leslie Mak was named the Pac-12 Gymnast of the Year for the second consecutive year, and Utah's Georgia Dabritz earned Pac-12 Freshman/Newcomer of the Year honors.
