UCLA alumna Anna Li will compete this weekend at the 2011 Visa Championships, which are taking place in St. Paul, Minnesota from Aug. 17-20. The national championship meet will be televised by Universal Sports and NBC.
The first day of the women's competition begins on Thursday, Aug. 18 at 4:30 pm PT. Day two for the women is on Saturday, Aug. 20, also at 4:30 pm PT.
Universal Sports will televise day one for the women live beginning at 5 pm PT, and NBC will carry the women's final day of competition live beginning at 5 pm PT. Additionally, Universal Sports will air "Around the Gym" before and after the broadcasts on Aug. 18 and after the broadcast on Aug. 20. Webcasts will also be available on UniversalSports.com live on Aug. 18 and on-demand after the competition on Aug. 20. Quick hits and live scoring will be available at USA-Gymnastics.org.
Li, who was an eight-time All-American at UCLA from 2007-10, now trains at Legacy Elite Gymnastics under her coaches and parents Jiani Wu and Yuejiu Li. She earned qualification to the Visa Championships in July through her performance at the American Classic. Last month, she competed on uneven bars at the CoverGirl Classic and tied for seventh. During her time at UCLA, Li led the Bruins to the NCAA Championship her senior season and scored a pair of perfect 10s on uneven bars at the Pac-10 and NCAA Regional Championships. She totaled six NCAA Regional individual titles and three Pac-10 individual titles in her career.
Li is a candidate for USA Gymnastics' Visa Championships Fan All-Star Team. Voting ends on Saturday, Aug. 20 at 4 pm PT. Fans can vote via online ballot and through the USAGymnastics Facebook page by clicking "Like" on the photos of their selection. The final teams will be based 50 percent on the results of the online poll and 50 percent on the number of 'Likes' each athlete receives on Facebook. The team will include six male, six female and six rhythmic gymnasts and will be announced Saturday evening on the USA Gymnastics website.
Also during the championships weekend, Bruin alumna Kristen Maloney will be inducted into the USA Gymnastics Hall of Fame in the Class of 2011. The induction ceremony will take place on Friday, Aug. 19 at the USA Gymnastics National Congress and Trade Show.
