PALO ALTO, Calif. - The No. 3 UCLA women's water polo team fell, 10-5, at No. 2 Stanford in the third-place match of the Stanford Invitational late Sunday afternoon. The Bruins (5-2) received one goal from each of five players in the non-conference loss.
Stanford (5-1) took advantage of three goals from junior Kelly Eaton and one pair of goals from Melissa Seidemann and Jessica Steffens.
The Cardinal led 1-0 after the first period and secured a 6-3 advantage by halftime. Both teams traded two goals in the third period before Stanford blanked UCLA by a 2-0 margin in the final quarter.
Senior goalkeeper Brittany Fullen made six saves in the cage for the Bruins. Stanford's Amber Oland made nine stops, and Kim Hall recorded one save.
No. 3 UCLA plays its home opener against No. 5 San Diego State on Friday, Feb. 13. Game time at UCLA's Sunset Canyon Recreation Center is 3 p.m.
