Carson Calif. - In its second scrimmage of the spring season, the UCLA men's soccer team dropped a 2-0 decision to the U.S. Under-23 National Team Monday morning at The Home Depot Center. The Bruins shut out the Olympic team in the first half of play before conceding two goals in the second half.
UCLA, which played the full National Team to a close 3-2 decision on Jan. 27, had four good scoring opportunities against the U-23s in the first half, including shots that hit the post by David Estrada and Sal Zizzo. The U.S. team, which consisted of mostly professional players, including former Bruins Chad Barrett and Patrick Ianni, received second-half goals from Jamie Watson and Rob Valentino.
The starting lineup for UCLA consisted of goalkeeper Brian Perk; defenders Brandon Owens, Greg Folk and Mike Zaher; midfielders Chance Myers, Michael Stephens, James Jaramillo, Kyle Nakazawa and Jason Leopoldo; and forwards Estrada and Zizzo.
