Four UCLA golfers advanced to the second round of match play at the 111th U.S. Women's Amateur Championship Wednesday at the Rhode Island Country Club.

Senior Stephanie Kono, juniors Lee Lopez and Tiffany Lua and incoming freshman Erynne Lee each won their first round matches.

Kono won in 19 holes against Madeleine Sheils of Boise, ID with a par on the first extra playoff hole. A par at the 18th enabled Kono to square the match after Sheils had birdied the 17th. Kono will meet Lydia Ko of New Zealand Thursday at 8:50 a.m. EDT.

Lua won in 20 holes against Kelly Shon of Port Washington, NY, with a birdie on the second extra playoff hole. Lua had a 1-up lead entering the 18th hole, but lost it with a bogey. Both players birdied the 19th hole before Lua made her second straight birdie at the 20th. She plays against Mackenzie Brooke Henderson of Canada at 9 a.m.

Lopez won 4 & 2 against Kristina Merkle of Honolulu, HI. This match was all-square through 10 holes before Lopez won the 11th, 12th, 15th and 16th holes. With the usual match play concessions, Lopez was three-under par when she clinched the match. Lopez meets Stephanie Kim of Tempe, AZ in the Round of 32 beginning at 9:10 a.m.

Lee had an even easier time. She won 6 & 4 against Mariel Galdiano of Pearly City, HI. After winning the third hole to square the match, she won five of the next 11 holes to clinch a spot in the Round of 32. Lee will tee off tomorrow against Tiffany Lim of San Jose, CA at 7:50 a.m.
