Box Score

LOS ANGELES - The UCLA baseball team lost to No. 5 Cal State Fullerton, 6-5, in 10 innings Saturday evening at Steele Field at Jackie Robinson Stadium. The Bruins rallied from a late 5-0 deficit, scoring five two-out runs in the seventh inning, before Cal State Fullerton added one run in the top of the 10th inning to secure a 6-5 cushion.

Catcher Gino Aielli went 3-for-5 with one run and one RBI for the host Bruins (25-26), and first baseman Cody Decker went 1-for-5 with a game-high four RBI, as he uncorked his fourth career grand slam in the seventh inning.

Cal State Fullerton left-hander Nick Ramirez (3-1) earned the victory in relief, tossing 2.2 hitless innings while notching two strikeouts. UCLA left-hander Gavin Brooks (0-4) was tagged the loss, surrendering the go-ahead run and one double in the 10th inning. Brooks struck out two hitters and did not issue any walks.

UCLA's starting pitcher, freshman right-hander Trevor Bauer, allowed five runs and eight hits in nine innings, recording eight strikeouts and two walks. Cal State Fullerton freshman right-hander Noe Ramirez limited the Bruins to four runs and eight hits through 6.2 innings, collecting nine strikeouts and three walks. Neither starting pitcher earned a decision in the contest.

The Titans (38-13) were led offensively by center fielder Josh Fellhauer, who went 2-for-4 with one home run and three RBI. Cal State Fullerton also received homers from first baseman Jared Clark and catcher Dustin Garneau.

Cal State Fullerton claimed a 2-0 lead in the top of the second on Garneau's two-run homer to left field. The Titans pushed their advantage to three runs with a solo homer to right by Fellhauer in the top of the third.

Titans' shortstop Christian Colon led off the top of the fourth with a double to left field, advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt and scored on a groundout by Fellhauer. Clark followed with a two-out solo homer to left field, handing Cal State Fullerton a 5-0 lead.

UCLA tied the ballgame, 5-5, with a five-run seventh inning. After the first two batters of the inning recorded outs, shortstop Niko Gallego reached safely with an infield single and second baseman Tyler Rahmatulla drew a walk on a full count. Center fielder Blair Dunlap was hit by a pitch, loading the bases for Aielli, who singled through the left side to advance each baserunner 90 feet. Decker capped the inning with a grand slam, tying the score at 5-5.

Cal State Fullerton pushed across their sixth run in the top of the 10th. Colon led off the frame with a double deep to the gap in right-center field and stole third base. A sacrifice fly to left field by Fellhauer scored Colon, who barely beat the throw home from left fielder Dustin Quist.

UCLA concludes its three-game series against No. 5 Cal State Fullerton on Sunday afternoon. Game time at UCLA's Jackie Robinson Stadium is 1 p.m. Sunday's game marks the Bruins' final regular-season home contest in 2009. UCLA will honor seven players in a pregame "Senior Day" ceremony.

Game Notes: Cody Decker belted his team-leading 18th home run in the seventh inning, becoming the first Bruin since 2002 to hit 18 or more home runs in a single season (Adam Berry, Wes Whisler each hit 18 homers in 2002)...Trevor Bauer tossed nine innings as the Bruins' starter, pushing his season total to a team-leading 96.0 innings pitched.
