UCLA Cruises in Exhibition Opener over Cal Poly Pomona, 73-43

Los Angeles - Junior guard Arron Afflalo registered game-highs of 17 points, seven rebounds and six assists, and sophomore forward Josh Shipp added 16 points to lead UCLA past Cal Poly Pomona, 73-43, in an exhibition game Thursday night in Pauley Pavilion.

Afflalo and Shipp each shot 6-for-12 from the field to lead the Bruins. Sophomore center Alfred Aboya chipped in 10 points and three rebounds. Sophomore forward Luc Richard Mbah a Moute added five points, seven rebounds, three steals and two blocks.

UCLA led the entire game and used a 9-0 run in the game's first 3:25 to take a 12-3 lead. The Bruins shot 55.6 percent (15-27) from the field in the first half and held the visiting Broncos to 15-of-47 shooting overall.

Sophomore forward Ryan Wright's free throw with 2:48 remaining in the first half gave UCLA a 19-point advantage, its largest first-half lead. The Bruins led 42-25 at halftime.

UCLA used an 11-0 run in the first eight minutes of the second half, giving the Bruins a 55-29 advantage. The Bruins led by 35 points - their largest lead of the night - after freshman forward James Keefe made a free throw with 2:17 to play. UCLA limited Cal Poly Pomona to 18 second-half points.

Larry Gordon led Cal Poly Pomona with 13 points and six rebounds.

The Bruins return to action Thursday, Nov. 9, against Humboldt State in their final preseason exhibition game. Game time is 7:30 p.m. in Pauley Pavilion.
