LOS ANGELES - The UCLA women's volleyball team received a #8 national seed for the NCAA Tournament and will host the first and second rounds at Pauley Pavilion. The Bruins will take on Long Beach State in a first-round matchup on Friday at 8 p.m., with Georgia Tech and Baylor squaring off at 5:30 p.m. The winners of the two first-round matches will play in the second round on Saturday at 7 p.m.
UCLA finished the regular season with a 23-8 overall record and in a tie for second in the Pacific-10 Conference with a 13-5 mark. Long Beach State, champions of the Big West Conference, were 22-8 overall and 12-4 in league play. It will be the second meeting between the Bruins and the 49ers this season, as Long Beach State upset UCLA in three sets on Sept. 19 in Fullerton.
Georgia Tech earned an at-large bid into the NCAA Tournament, finishing the regular season with a 21-9 overall record and a 15-5 conference mark (third place) in the Atlantic Coast Conference. Baylor, also an at-large team, was 22-9 overall and 11-9 (tie for fourth) in the Big 12 Conference.
The Bruins are 54-19 all-time against Long Beach State and 3-1 in the NCAA Tournament. UCLA is 2-0 against both Baylor and Georgia Tech and 1-0 against the Yellow Jackets in the postseason.
UCLA has now hosted the first and second rounds of the NCAA Tournament for six of the last seven years. Since the NCAA field expanded to 64 teams in 1998, the Bruins are 14-0 in first and second round matches at Pauley Pavilion.
Ticket information for the first and second rounds will become available early next week.
