LAKE MONTICELLO, Va. - The No. 17 UCLA women's rowing program won one of three races against No. 18 Texas at the Virginia Invitational late Friday afternoon. The Bruins' second varsity eight finished ahead of Texas.
The weekend schedule of the Virginia Invitational was altered on Friday morning, due to impending rain in the area during the weekend. UCLA's races against Texas were moved to Friday, with races against Virginia slated for Saturday in the 2 and 3 p.m. hours (ET) and races against Clemson schedule for Sunday in the 9 and 10 a.m. hours (ET).
UCLA's varsity eight finished 3.1 seconds behind Texas, posting a time of 7:18.80. Texas crossed the finish line in 7:15.70.
The Bruins' second varsity eight defeated Texas by 2.1 seconds, registering a time of 7:44.10. Texas finished the race behind UCLA in 7:46.20.
UCLA's varsity four was edged by 0.60 seconds, finishing the race in 8:53.50. Texas posted a time of 8:52.90 in the varsity four race.
UCLA returns to action against Virginia on Saturday. The varsity four race will take place at 2:50 p.m., the second varsity eight at 3:20 p.m. and the varsity eight at 3:50 p.m. (all times are Eastern).
