Duke, No. 14 Baylor on Tap for UCLA Men's Tennis This Week
The sixth-ranked UCLA men's tennis team (6-3) has two home matches this week, as the Bruins are scheduled to host Duke and No. 14 Baylor. Action begins on Tuesday when the No. 33 Blue Devils (5-3) visit the Los Angeles Tennis Center at 1:30 p.m. Duke last visited the LATC back in 2008, losing to UCLA 6-1. The Bruins return to action on Thursday, hosting Baylor (9-2) at 1:30 p.m. The Bears edged the Bruins, 4-3 in Waco, Texas last season. Live Stats for both matches can be found by clicking HERE.
New Team Rankings Released on Tuesday
UCLA checked in at No. 6 in the latest ITA Rankings released on March 2. Individual rankings were also released and the Bruins had four singles players ranked led by Haythem Abid at No. 40. He was followed by No. 50 Matt Brooklyn, No. 92 Amit Inbar and No. 118 Nick Meister. UCLA also had two doubles teams ranked, as Abid and Meister checked in at No. 55, followed by Brooklyn and Kallim Stewart at No. 57. New team rankings will be released on Tuesday, while individual rankings will not be released again until March 16. Complete rankings can be found HERE.
Cross-Town Showdown Goes to No. 5 Trojans
UCLA's Nick Meister accounted for the Bruins' lone point last Wednesday, as UCLA fell to No. 5 USC for the second time this season. The Trojans' 6-1 victory over the Bruins was their first at the Los Angeles Tennis Center since 1991.
Bruins to Take Time Off for Final Exams and Spring Break
This Thursday's match with Baylor will be UCLA's last competition for nearly two weeks, as the Bruins will take time off for final exams and Spring Break. UCLA's next match will be a home contest against Wichita State on March 23 at 1:00 p.m.
