LOS ANGELES - UCLA men's tennis player Jeremy Drean and women's tennis player Alex McGoodwin were recently selected to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District-VIII at-large team, as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on Thursday. Both players were first-team selections, meaning they are now eligible for the Academic All-America honors.
McGoodwin, a senior from Ft. Lauderdale, FL, recently helped UCLA to a second place finish at the NCAA Championships in Athens, Ga. She played No. 2 doubles and No. 5 singles for the Bruins, clinching the deciding singles match in the Bruins' 4-3 upset over fourth-seeded Florida in the semifinals. She ended the season with a 23-11 overall singles record, including a 19-12 mark in doubles play. In the classroom, McGoodwin holds a 3.9 cumulative grade point average, majoring in Geography and Environmental Studies. She is a two-time first-team All-Pac-10 Academic selection (2005 & 2006).
Drean, a junior from Rennes, France, recently helped the Bruins advance to the quarterfinals of the NCAA Championships for the 19th-straight season. He was part of UCLA's No. 3 doubles team, partnering with fellow Frenchman Mathieu Dehaine. The duo posted a 20-11 overall record this season. Drean also owned an 18-7 overall mark in singles play. He owns a 3.82 GPA, majoring in Business-Economics. He was named a to the All-Pac-10 Academic first team in 2006.
