Bruin swimmers kicked off their summer season this past weekend as they competed at the Santa Clara Grand Prix International Invitational. Nearly 20 women were in action competing for Team Bruin or their hometown club teams, along with a few incoming freshmen.
Highlighting the Bruins over the weekend were Yasi Jahanshahi, Sam Vanden Berge, Anna Senko and Lauren Baker. Jahanshahi advanced to finals in both the 100m and 200m fly during the four-day meet. She finished 11th in the B final of the 200m fly (2:13.13) and won the C final of the 100m fly (1:00.99), placing 19th overall. Vanden Berge, who will be competing for Team USA at the World University Games in August in the 800m free, finished 16th in the event with a time of 8:59.34. Baker, also in the 800m free, was 25th overall in a time of 9:09.11. Senko, who was competing for her club team, Bluefish, finished 26th in the 200m IM with a time of 2:22.09. She swam 2:19.85 in the prelim rounds. Senko was also 38th in the 400m IM in a time of 5:00.82.
Incoming freshman Allison Gargalikis (Terrapin) was 39th in the 100 breast with a time of 1:14.12. Another newcomer, Taylor Carlson (Terrapin), also competed in multiple events during the meet.
