The second-ranked UCLA women's water polo team handled twelfth-ranked UCSB 21-8, on a sunny Sunday afternoon at Sunset Canyon Recreation Center. With the win, the Bruins improved to 15-1 overall, and 7-0 in MPSF play. The Gauchos fall to 1-4 in conference play, and 10-10 overall.

The Gauchos struck first on a lob shot from Gillian Morgan less than a minute into the game. The Bruins then answered with seven straight goals to close out the first quarter. Molly Cahill and Katie Rulon both scored twice in the first to help the Bruins build an insurmountable lead. UCLA continued to pour it on in the second quarter, taking a 12-2 lead into halftime. Between the second and third quarters, the team scored twelve unanswered goals to take a commanding 19-2 lead.

Katie Rulon tied sister Kelly Rulon's UCLA record with five goals in the game. Kelly Rulon's goal with 2:21 to play in the second quarter was the 200th goal of her career. She is only the second Bruin to reach that mark. Assistant Coach Coralie Simmons is the all-time UCLA goal leader with 235.

Jenny Gonzalez had six saves for the Gauchos. Emily Feher made four saves and allowed only three goals before leaving at the end of the third quarter.

The Bruins next game is at home against Long Beach State on Thursday, March 15.
