SAN JOSE, Calif. - The No. 4 UCLA women's water polo team earned a 9-4 victory at No. 8 San Jose State on Saturday afternoon at the Spartans' Aquatic Center. Senior Grace Reynolds netted a team-leading three goals to help the Bruins (19-5, 2-3 MPSF) secure the MPSF victory.
Reynolds scored two of the Bruins' three goals in the third quarter to snap a 2-2 halftime deadlock. Her third goal of the match handed UCLA a commanding 7-3 lead with 4:01 to play in the contest.
The Bruins held San Jose State leading scorer Adrianna Vogt to two goals in the victory.
Each team scored one goal in the first and second quarters, entering the halftime intermission with a 2-2 tie. The Bruins outscored San Jose State by a 3-1 margin in the third period and by a 4-1 tally in the final quarter.
Senior goalkeeper Caitlin Dement registered 13 saves in the cage for UCLA and made a crucial stop on a penalty shot attempt by SJSU's Timi Molnar in the third quarter with the Bruins leading, 5-3.
San Jose State goalkeeper Meagan Minson was credited with eight saves.
UCLA returns to action with its final three regular-season matches at home. The Bruins take on crosstown rival and No. 3-ranked USC on Saturday, April 9. Game time at Spieker Aquatics Center is 1 p.m.
