Bruins Fall in Three to Top-Ranked Anteaters

The third-ranked and defending NCAA champion UCLA men's volleyball team fell in three games to top-ranked UC Irvine Saturday in the championship match of the UCSB Elephant Bar Collegiate Invitational.

UC Irvine won 30-22, 30-26, 30-23 in one hour and 25 minutes. The loss dropped the Bruins' overall record to 2-1. The Anteaters improved to 4-0.

Senior Steve Klosterman and Paul George each earned All-Tournament honors for the Bruins. In the championship, Klosterman led UCLA with 11 kills and George added 10. Sophomore Jamie Diefenbach led UCLA with two total blocks.

The Anteaters limited the Bruins to a hitting percentage of .194 and out-blocked them 8-5. The Bruins committed 19 service errors and recorded just four aces.

UCLA begins conference play on Jan. 12 and 13 with road matches against BYU.
