The Bruin decathletes posted several lifetime-bests on day one of the California Invitational/Mt. SAC Relays multi-event competition on Wednesday.

Sophomore Marcus Nilsson, who is competing in the top section of the decathlon, labeled the Mt. SAC section, stands in 10th-place overall with a five-event score of 3926 points. Throughout the first day, Nilsson tallied three lifetime-bests and one season-best mark.

He started off the day by running a season-best in the 100m (11.39, 776 pts.) and then posted a lifetime-best mark of 23-4.75 in the long jump (845 pts.). Nilsson followed that up with a lifetime-best performance in the shot put (47-1.50, 750 pts.) and personal-best clearance in the high jump (6-4.25, 749 pts.). The Swede ended the day by running 50.19 in the 400m (806 pts.) for a total score of 3926 points.

Dominic Giovannoni, David Thomas and Trent Perez were in action in Azusa at the California Invitational and ended the first day with Giovannoni in fifth, Thomas in eighth and Perez in 14th.

Giovannoni opened up the day with a 100m time of 11.17 (823 pts.) and followed event one up with a long jump mark of 22-7 (785 pts.) and a shot put mark of 39-5.75 (608 pts.). In the high jump, he cleared a lifetime-best of 5-4.25 (749) and then wrapped up the day with a lifetime-best run in the 400m (50.19, 806 pts.). His five event total was 3771 points.

Thomas posted lifetime-bests in four of the five events contested on Thursday. He ran a lifetime-best in the 100m (11.49, 755 pts.) and posted a lifetime-best jump of 21-11.75 (743 pts.) in the long jump. In the shot put, Thomas threw 42-4.75 (662 pts.). He then cleared a lifetime-best of 6-2 in the high jump (696 pts.) and ended the day with a personal-best time in the 400m (51.01, 769 pts.). Thomas's total score for day one was 3625 points.

Perez ran 11.39 in the 100m (776 pts.), had a long jump mark of 20-7.25 (648 pts.), threw the shot put a distance of 33-5.25 (497 pts.) and cleared 6-00.75 in the high jump (670). He ended the day with a season-best run of 49.45 in the 400m (840 pts.) for a five-event total of 3431 points.

Competition continues on Thursday with the final events of the decathlon - the 110m hurdles, discus, pole vault, javelin and 1500m.
