LOS ANGELES - Freshman left-hander Gavin Brooks (5-6) threw his first career complete game Sunday afternoon, striking out seven to lead the No. 26 UCLA baseball team past No. 23 Oregon State, 5-2, on "Senior Day" at Jackie Robinson Stadium. Brooks limited the Beavers to two runs (one earned) and three hits in the Bruins' final-regular season contest.

Senior first baseman Tim Stewart led UCLA (30-26, 14-10 Pac-10) offensively for the second consecutive day, hitting 2-for-3 with three RBI. Third baseman Jermaine Curtis hit 2-for-5, as Gabe Cohen and Will Penniall each scored twice.

Oregon State (38-17, 10-14 Pac-10) managed just three hits off Brooks, as left fielder Mike Lissman finished 1-for-3 with two runs and a solo home run. Beaver right-hander Jorge Reyes (4-4) was tagged with the loss, allowing three runs (two earned) and seven hits in 5 1/3 innings.

UCLA took a 2-0 lead with one run in each of the second and fourth innings. The Bruins got on the board in the second on an RBI-single by Stewart, scoring Cohen. In a similar situation in the fourth inning, Stewart's grounder to third resulted in a throwing error by Lonnie Lechelt, allowing Cohen to score.

Oregon State cut the Bruins' margin in half, 2-1 with a solo home run in the top of the fifth by Lissman. The round-tripper was the first hit of the afternoon for the Beavers.

The Bruins led 3-1 after Stewart delivered a run-scoring to left field in the bottom of the sixth, sending home Penniall.

Oregon State added a run in the top of the eighth inning on an RBI-single to left by second baseman Joey Wong, scoring Lissman from third base.

Center fielder Justin Uribe tripled to right field in the eighth inning, scoring Penniall from first base to hand the Bruins a 4-2 lead. UCLA extended its margin to 5-2 on a sacrifice fly by catcher Ryan Babineau, sending Uribe home from third.
