Los Angeles, Calif. - UCLA junior forward Chandler Hoffman has been named one of 15 semifinalists for the Missouri Athletic Club's Hermann Trophy, as announced by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA).
Hoffman leads the Pac-12 in both goals (18) and points (40) and was a first-team All-Pac-12 selection this season. His 18 goals are the most by a Bruin player since Joe-Max Moore had 18 back in 1991 and his 40 points are the most by a UCLA player since Seth George had 42 in 1997. He is also tied for fourth nationally in goals and is sixth in points scored. Finally, Hoffman tied UCLA records this season for consecutive games with a goal and multiple goal games, scoring in five straight games and tallying four multiple goal games.
The MAC Hermann Trophy is the highest individual award in intercollegiate soccer. The recipients are selected by head coaches of NCAA Division I programs who are members of the NSCAA. The field of 15 semifinalists will be reduced to three finalists and those three will be invited to the Missouri Athletic Club in St. Louis on Friday, Jan. 6, 2012, where a news conference will be held to announce the winner, followed by a banquet to honor the three finalists.
UCLA has had two MAC Hermann Trophy winners - Brad Friedel, who won the Hermann Trophy in 1992, and Sasha Victorine, who won the MAC Trophy in 1999. The two awards were unified into the MAC Hermann Trophy in 2002.
