Senior running back Johnathan Franklin (Los Angeles, CA/Dorsey HS) of the UCLA football team was selected as the UCLA/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week for Aug. 27-Sept. 3.
Franklin, this week's Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Week, ran 15 times for 214 yards (two yards shy of his career-high total) and tied his career high with three touchdowns in a 49-24 season-opening win at Rice. Franklin's three touchdown runs covered 74, 78 and 22 yards, and he became the first UCLA back ever to record two runs of 72 yards or longer in a game. He also became the fourth UCLA back to rush for at least 200 yards in multiple games, joining Gaston Green, Karim Abdul Jabbar and Theotis Brown. Franklin, who had 169 yards rushing at halftime, recording his 11th career 100-yard rushing game, which ties Brown for seventh on the all-time school list. With his 214 yards rushing, Franklin inched closer (2,883) to becoming the seventh UCLA back with 3,000 career yard rushing and is now just 32 yards shy of taking over seventh place on the all-time school rushing list
This is Franklin's first UCLA/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week honor of the season and of third of his career.
