San Diego, Calif. - Pamela Montez and McCall Jones are still in the hunt for the singles title at the 2011 USTA/ITA Southwest Regionals, as the two Bruin players each posted a pair of wins on Friday at the Barnes Tennis Center.
Montez began the day with a 7-5, 7-6(4) victory over Pepperdine's Lorraine Guillermo. She then downed SDSU's Julia Wais, 6-0, 7-5. Montez will face Arizona's Natasha Marks in the quarterfinals on Saturday at 9:00 a.m.
Jones also won both of her matches in straight sets, defeating SDSU's Emma Cioffi, 7-5, 6-0 and UCSB's Natalia Lozano, 6-4, 6-3. Jones will take on USC's Sabrina Santamaria, also at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday.
UCLA also has two doubles teams that will be competing in the round of 16 on Saturday, as the duos of Robin Anderson/Morton and Jones/Montez each posted wins on Friday.
