Los Angeles - Senior Logan Powell of the UCLA men's water polo team captured co-MPSF Mikasa Player of the Week honors after matching a career-high five goals at Pepperdine on Saturday and adding another in a one-goal overtime win at UC Santa Barbara the following afternoon. Powell shared the award with UC Irvine junior Colin Mello.
Powell's five-goal performance Saturday marked the second time this season he had accomplished the feat - he also scored five goals in a 15-4 win at UC Irvine on Friday, Sept. 22. The left-handed attacker from San Clemente, Calif., has now posted eight multiple-goal performances this season and has tallied 23 such efforts in his four-year career.
Powell now leads all active UCLA players with 79 career goals, two ahead of classmate Michael March. The fifth-year senior has scored 25 goals on 55 attempts (45.4 percentage) this season.
Third-ranked UCLA (13-5, 4-2 MPSF) returns to action Friday, Nov. 17, and will host Long Beach State in an MPSF conference match. Game time is 3 p.m. Two days later, the Bruins wrap up their regular-season slate at home against UC Irvine at 1 p.m.
