The fourth-ranked UCLA men's golf team travels to Florida for the 18th John Hayt Collegiate at Sawgrass Country Club in Ponte Vedra, Fla.
The Sawgrass Country Club will play to a par of 72 over 6,895 yards. Three rounds of stroke play will commence on Sun., Feb. 17 and continue through Tues., Feb. 19.
This year's event features eight of the nation's Top 25 teams, including second-ranked University of Charlotte, No.3 Alabama and seventh-ranked Georgia Tech. Among the top individuals are second-ranked Michael Thompson of Alabama and Georgia Tech's Chesson Hadley, ranked fifth.
UCLA won this event in 2006 to become the first West Coast team to secure the team title. Last year, Kevin Chappell captured individual medalist honors as the Bruins tied for fourth. Chappell, a senior, is coming off a record-breaking performance in his last event: a 15-under par score of 198 and victory at the PING/Arizona Intercollegiate last month. His 54-hole score broke a 23-year old record held by Duffy Waldorf, UCLA's 1985 Player of the Year. Entering this week's event, Chappell boasts four collegiate victories and the nation's No.3 ranking.
