The fifth-ranked UCLA men's volleyball team travels to Malibu Friday night in a key MPSF showdown. The Bruins also will be looking to end a few streaks of uncharacteristic futility.
The first and most important means snapping a two-match MPSF skid that started a week ago against Long Beach State and continued with last night's five-game loss on the road against USC.
A victory against the Waves would also snap a three-match losing streak at Firestone Fieldhouse where the Bruins have not won since 2004. Overall, UCLA has lost four straight to Pepperdine, but leads the all-time series, 71-29.
The Bruins (5-3, 3-2) were upset by USC on Thursday night after battling back from an 0-2 deficit. With a 14-12 lead in Game 5, the Bruins fell to a 6-2 Trojan run that cost them the match.
Second-ranked Pepperdine suffered its first loss of the season at home to No. 10 UC Irvine. The Anteaters surprised the Waves with a dominating block and efficient offense to drop the hosts to 4-1 overall.
Friday's match will be broadcast live on www.uclabruins.com with Darren Preston calling the action.
The Bruins return to Pauley Pavilion for a four-match home stand that begins with Cal Baptist on Jan. 30.
