LA JOLLA, Calif. - The No. 3 UCLA women's water polo team received two goals from three players to defeat No. 14 Hartwick, 12-4, and advance to the semifinals of the Triton Invitational on Saturday afternoon.
In all, UCLA received one goal from nine players. Seniors Megan Burmeister and Kelsey McGinley, juniors KK Clark and Sarah Orozco, sophomore Emily Greenwood and freshman Becca Dorst each scored one goal.
The Bruins led 2-1 after the first quarter and used a 5-2 scoring run in the second period to assume a 7-3 lead at halftime. UCLA continued to outscore the Hawks in the final two quarters to win by a 12-4 margin.
Hartwick was led by Charlotte Mensink's three goals. Hawks' goalkeeper Jessica Dorman was credited with nine saves in the cage.
Saturday afternoon's win marked UCLA's second victory of the day. The Bruins cruised past Santa Clara, 11-2, in the morning. The two wins allows UCLA to advance to the semifinals on Sunday. The Bruins will play an opponent to be determined at 11:10 a.m. at Triton Pool.
