Senior Benjamin Kohlloeffel (Herne, Germany/Otto-Hahn Gymnasium) of the UCLA Men's Tennis team was selected as the UCLA/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week (Oct. 30-Nov. 5).
A day after fighting off two match points in the semifinals, Kohlloeffel defended his title at the ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships on Sunday, becoming the first back-to-back champion at the event since 1995. Kohlloeffel, the tournament's top seed, defeated hometown favorite Steve Moneke of Ohio State, 6-0, 6-4 in Sunday's championship match. He becomes the third player to defend his title at Indoors and first since Sargis Sargsian of Arizona State won it back in 1994 and '95. Trinity's Erick Iskersky also did it back in 1978 and '79. Kohlloeffel, who twice came within a point of falling in the semifinals to Oklahoma State's Ivan Puchkarov, posted his 100th career UCLA victory on Sunday. He currently owns a three-year record of 100-13.
This is Kohlloeffel's first UCLA/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week honor of the season and third of his career.
