The No. 14 Bruin swim and dive team will travel to Arizona this weekend for the final two dual meets of the 2007 portion of their schedule. The Bruins will face Arizona State on Friday at 2:00 pm and No. 4 Arizona and UC Irvine on Saturday in Tucson at noon.
UCLA currently holds a record of 3-0 (1-0 Pac-10) with wins over Idaho, UC Santa Barbara and Oregon State. ASU holds a record of 4-0 with two wins over Hawaii and victories over UC Santa Barbara and UNLV. The Wildcats are 1-0 with a win over Wisconsin, while UC Irvine has not competed in a dual meet yet this season.
The Bruins hold a 16-8-1 advantage over the Sundevils, while Arizona leads the overall series with UCLA with a 14-11 record. UCLA has never competed against UC Irvine in a dual meet.
Last season, the Bruins defeated Arizona State but fell to Arizona, the eventual Pac-10 Champion and NCAA runner-up.
UCLA is led by divers Marisa Samaniego and Tess Schofield, and swimmers Anna Poteete and Nicolette Teo. Samaniego and Schofield have already qualifed for the NCAA Zone E Championships, and Poteete and Teo have posted NCAA qualifying marks in their respective events.
A young team of swimmers will have to step up this weekend to help the Bruins be successful in the dual meet competitions.
