ANN ARBOR, Mich. - Junior Grace Reynolds scored a team-leading four goals to lead the No. 3 UCLA women's water polo team past No. 19 Indiana, 12-6, in the Bruins' season-opening contest on Saturday morning at the Michigan Invitational.
UCLA (1-0) also received two goals from junior Priscilla Orozco, sophomore KK Clark and freshman Leah Trella. Junior Kelly Easterday and freshman Emily Greenwood each added one goal for the Bruins. Reynolds, Trella and Greenwood registered their first goals at UCLA.
The Bruins led by a 3-2 margin after the first quarter and added one more goal in the second period to lead by a 4-2 margin at halftime. UCLA outscored the Hoosiers, 4-1, in the third quarter to open an 8-3 cushion. The Bruins expanded their advantage to six goals by the end of the game, outscoring Indiana 4-3 in the final frame.
Indiana's Jakie Kohli led the Hoosiers (0-1) with three goals.
UCLA sophomore goalkeeper Caitlin Dement registered six saves. Indiana's Katie Carson made nine stops.
The Bruins return to action at the Michigan Invitational against No. 7 San Diego State on Saturday evening (3:15 p.m. PT/6:15 p.m. ET). UCLA concludes its weekend with matches against No. 10 Michigan and UC San Diego on Sunday, Jan .24.
