The UCLA swimming and diving teams open up the 2012-2013 season this Friday at Spieker Aquatics Center at 1 p.m., hosting a quad meet with Oregon State, UC Santa Barbara and Utah. Admission is free of charge.
The Bruins are coming off a season in which they finished fifth at the Pac-12 Championships and earned nine points at the NCAA Championships to finish tied for 37th.
Three Bruins who swam at the NCAA's, juniors Kathryn Murphy (50, 100 and 200 Freestyle Freestyle, 200 and 400 Medley Relay, 800 Freestyle Relay) and Anna Senko (200 Individual Medley, 200 and 400 Medley Relay, 100 Butterfly, 800 Freestyle Relay) and sophomore Noelle Tarazona (200 and 400 IM, 200 Butterfly, 800 Freestyle Relay) return this season.
Murphy (50 Free), Senko (200 IM and 200 Back), Tarazona (200 Fly), senior Andrea Reigel (200 IM, 200 Back) and junior Cynthia Fascella (100 Free) all had 'A' Final placings at the Pac-12 Championships.
On the diving side, the reigning Pac-12 Newcomer of the Year is back, as now sophomore Emma Ivory-Ganja returns. Ivory-Ganja placed third on both the 3-meter and platform at the Pac-12 Championships, going on to finish fourth on the platform at the Zone E Championships. Junior Paulina Guzman also finished eighth in both the 1- and 3-meter events at the Pac-12's.
In addition to the women's action, the men's swimming and diving teams for UC Santa Barbara and Utah will also be taking to the pool during the meet.
