12-GAME STAND BEGINS WITH SIX CONTESTS THIS WEEK
The defending national champion and eighth-ranked Bruins return to Easton Stadium to start a 12-game homestand, beginning with a Monday doubleheader against UC Santa Barbara at 1 p.m. UCLA also hosts Cal Poly in a twinbill on Wednesday at 1 p.m. and single games versus Ohio on Thursday at 2 p.m. and Loyola Marymount on Sunday at 2 p.m.

ON DECK
The Bruins continue their homestand and open up Pac-10 play next weekend against Oregon State (April 1-3). Game times are 7 p.m. on Friday, 6 p.m. on Saturday and 12 p.m. on Sunday.

BRUINS IN THE POLLS
The Bruins moved up one spot to eighth in this week's USA Today/NFCA Top 25 poll, but fell one position into a tie for 11th in the latest ESPN.com/USA Softball rankings. UCLA tied Arizona for first in the Pac-10 preseason rankings, with each team receiving four first-place votes and 46 points.

NEWS AND NOTES
Kelly Inouye-Perez earned her 200th-career victory on Friday against Sacramento State and is 203-54 as the head coach ... the Bruins are 13-0 this season when scoring a run in the first inning. Over the last year and a half, UCLA is 34-1 when scoring in its opening at-bat ... the Bruins are 5-0 on Sundays ... UCLA has posted seven mercy-rule wins and six shutouts ... the Bruins have hit two or more homers 11 times and are undefeated ... senior GiOnna DiSalvatore (58 career doubles) is two away from becoming UCLA's all-time leader (Tairia Mims, 59) ... senior Donna Kerr has 17-career, double-figure strikeout games ... junior Andrea Harrison earned her second Pac-10 Player of the Week award this week ... freshman Jessica Hall has pitched in 16 of the Bruins' last 19 games ... sophomore B.B. Bates leads the team with 10 multiple-hit contests ... freshman Kellie Fox has hits in 12 of her last 13 games and in 22 of 25 contests overall ... junior Katie Schroeder is tops on the team with 25 runs scored and 18 walks ... freshman Alyssa Tiumalu held a team-best, 12-game hitting streak from Feb. 18 to March 4.

SCOUTING THE UC SANTA BARBARA GAUCHOS
Like the Bruins, the Gauchos are off for finals until Monday's doubleheader. UCSB (12-11) lost four of five at the Gaucho Classic last weekend, falling twice to UNLV, splitting with Wisconsin and losing to San Diego. The Gauchos have played four ranked teams, losing to California, Oklahoma State, Tennessee and Stanford. UC Santa Barbara is hitting .286 as a team with four home runs and 22 stolen bases, averaging 4.5 runs per game. Freshman McKenzie Kane is first on the squad with a .386 average and second with six stolen bases. Junior Allison Taylor is second with a .347 average and first with two homers. In the circle, freshman Andriana Collins is 8-6 with a 2.80 earned run average and 62 strikeouts in 97 1/3 innings. Junior Krista Cobb is 4-5 with a 3.43 ERA and 17 strikeouts in 49 innings. Brie Galicinao is in her fourth year at UCSB and holds a record of 83-97. The Bruins lead the all-time series with the Gauchos 65-4, winning a doubleheader at Santa Barbara last year by scores of 14-0 in five and 11-1 in six. UCLA is 24-2 all-time at home against UCSB, with the teams splitting a doubleheader in 2009 (UCLA 8-0 in 6; UCSB 7-2).

SCOUTING THE CAL POLY MUSTANGS
Cal Poly (3-19) is playing at the Stanford Louisville Slugger Classic this weekend before traveling to UCLA on Wednesday. The Mustangs have played a tough schedule, with 12 of their 19 losses coming against ranked foes. Cal Poly is hitting .221 as a team with 13 home runs and 14 stolen bases, averaging 2.3 runs per game. Junior Nora Sobczak is first on the team with a .355 average, while freshman Kim Westlund is second with a .307 average and first with four stolen bases. Senior Anna Cahn is first on the squad with eight homers and 16 RBI, while in the circle she is 1-6 with a 5.95 earned run average and 50 strikeouts in 59 innings. Sophomore Trista Thomas is 1-2 with a 5.28 ERA and six strikeouts in 15 1/3 innings and sophomore Rebecca Patton is 1-11 with a 7.70 ERA and 50 strikeouts in 69 innings. Jenny Condon is in her seventh year at Cal Poly and holds a record of 192-133. The Bruins won their 18th straight against the Mustangs with a 4-0 victory at the Campbell/Cartier Classic in San Diego on March 5. Jessica Hall had a no-hitter through five innings and settled for a two-hitter, while Dani Yudin drove in a pair of runs. UCLA leads the series 25-3 and is 11-1 at home against Cal Poly. The Mustangs' last win against the Bruins was a 1-0 triumph in San Luis Obispo in 1997, while their only victory in Westwood was a 1-0 win in 1977.

SCOUTING THE OHIO BOBCATS
Ohio holds an 8-6 record and begins its California swing at the San Diego Classic this weekend. The Bobcats will also play a doubleheader at Long Beach State on Wednesday before Thursday's contest. Ohio has played two ranked teams, falling to Michigan twice during the first weekend of the season. The Bobcats are hitting .250 as a team with six home runs and 23 stolen bases, averaging 4.2 runs per game. Senior Jordan Paden is batting .438 with a homer and five RBI, while senior Emily Wethington is hitting .414 with seven runs batted in. Sophomore Lauren Gellerman is tops on the squad with three homers and 13 RBI, hitting .306. Wethington is 6-2 in the circle with a 4.26 earned run average and 55 strikeouts in 50 2/3 innings, while sophomore Caitlin Colvin is 1-4 with an 8.00 ERA with 15 strikeouts in 27 innings. Jodi Hermanek is in her third year at Ohio and holds a record of 50-63. The Bruins have never faced Ohio.

SCOUTING THE LOYOLA MARYMOUNT LIONS
Loyola Marymount is hosting the Marina International Hotel Showcase this week where it will play eight games in five days. The Lions are 0-3 against ranked teams, falling to Tennessee, Texas and Arizona. LMU, holding an 8-15 record through Thursday's action, is batting .256 as a team with nine home runs, averaging 3.2 runs per game. Sophomore Danielle Smith is one of four hitting .300 or better, batting .377 with three RBI. Junior Kylie Ahlo (.320), junior Sam Fischer (.311) and senior Jennifer Nayudu (.304) are also hitting above .300, while junior Kelly Sarginson leads the squad with four home runs. In the circle, sophomore Molly Medeiros is 5-3 with a 2.51 earned run average and 40 strikeouts in 67 innings and sophomore Dana Waldusky is 2-5 with a 3.28 ERA and 34 strikeouts in 47 innings. Gary Ferrin is in his 17th year at Loyola Marymount and holds a record of 556-429-1. The Bruins lead the all-time series with the Lions 21-1 and have won two in a row after a doubleheader sweep at LMU last March 28 (8-2 and 5-0). Loyola Marymount's only win was a 4-2 triumph during the 2007 NCAA Regionals at Easton Stadium. The Bruins are 12-1 at home against the Lions.
