WOODLAND, Calif. - Senior attacker Krsto Sbutega of the UCLA men's water polo team captured MPSF Mikasa Tri-Player of the Week honors on Monday after having scored six goals in the Bruins' two MPSF road wins last weekend.
Sbutega, who scored three goals at No. 3 California and added three more at No. 17 Pacific, vaulted into ninth place in UCLA's career goals list (124). The native of Kotor, Montenegro shares the weekly honor with USC's Matt Sagehorn and UC Irvine's Brandon Johnson.
In a crucial 11-10 win at Cal, Sbutega's final two goals helped UCLA maintain a three-goal lead - at 2:56 in the third quarter and 5:54 in the final frame. The following afternoon, Sbutega's three goals helped UCLA defeat Pacific, 14-2, in Stockton, Calif.
This marks the second time this season, and in his career, that Sbutega has earned MPSF Player of the Week honors.
UCLA (11-4, 3-1 MPSF) rests in third place in the conference standings. The Bruins return to action at top-seeded USC (19-0, 4-0 MPSF) on Saturday, Nov. 1. Game time at McDonald's Swim Stadium is slated for 1 p.m.
