Los Angeles, Calif. - UCLA rowers Vanessa Teff and Lynn Hancock earned 2007 All-Region team honors, the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) announced last week. Also recognized were seniors Elizabeth Lee and Leah Wachtel, who were named CRCA National Scholar-Athletes for their efforts in the classroom and on the water.
Teff, a sophomore starboard rower, was named to the All-West Region first team, her second consecutive all-region selection. The Middleton, Wisc., product helped lead the varsity eight to a 14th place finish at the 2007 NCAA Championships.
Freshman rower Lynn Hancock garnered All-West second team honors, the first post-season honors of her career. Hancock, a Vancouver, British Columbia, native, was the only freshman on a varsity eight crew that reached the 2007 NCAA Championships.
Fellow varsity eight crewmate Elizabeth Lee earned a spot on the CRCA National Scholar-Athlete roster. The four-year letterman achieved a 3.64 GPA as a biology major. Lee has rowed on a varsity eight boat that has reached the NCAA Championships each of the last three years.
Joining Lee on the CRCA National-Scholar Athlete roster is team captain Leah Wachtel. The senior port rower and team co-captain, a former Pac-10 All-Academic selection, gained National-Scholar honors by earning a 3.54 GPA as a political science major. The Portola Valley, Calif., native rowed on the second varsity eight crew that beat USC at the annual dual-meet.
