#6 UCLA TRAVELS SOUTH FOR FOUR GAMES IN SAN DIEGO
The defending national champion and sixth-ranked Bruins visit the campus of San Diego State this weekend for the Campbell/Cartier Classic. UCLA takes on BYU (3:45 p.m.) and Baylor (8:15 p.m.) on Friday and SDSU (6 p.m.) and Cal Poly (8:15 p.m.) on Saturday. Gametracker will be available at UCLABruins.com.

ON DECK
The Bruins conclude regular-season tournament action next weekend at the Long Beach State Invitational in Lakewood, Calif. UCLA faces Sacramento State and Long Beach State on Friday, March 11, Cal State Fullerton and BYU on Saturday, March 12 and Saint Mary's on Sunday, March 13.

BRUINS IN THE POLLS
The Bruins fell four spots to sixth in this week's USA Today/NFCA Top 25 poll and dropped from third to ninth in the latest ESPN.com/USA Softball rankings. UCLA tied Arizona for first in the Pac-10 preseason rankings, with each team receiving four first-place votes and 46 points.

SCOUTING THE BYU COUGARS
BYU struggled to a 1-4 record last weekend at the Cathedral City Classic and enters the week with a 7-8 record. The Cougars are 1-4 against ranked teams this season, beating Texas A&M, while losing to Oregon, Stanford, Nebraska and Tennessee. BYU is hitting .291 as a team with 12 home runs, averaging 5.8 runs per game. Senior Jessica Fitu leads the team with a .538 average, five homers and 20 RBI. Three others are hitting over .300, including junior Tiffany Messerschmidt, who is batting .481 with three RBI. In the circle, sophomore Hannah Howell is 2-2 with a 3.40 ERA and 23 strikeouts in 22 2/3 innings, freshman Tori Almond is 1-1 with a 3.41 ERA and 20 strikeouts in 24 2/3 innings and senior Paige Affleck is 4-5 with a 4.23 ERA and 42 strikeouts in 54 2/3 innings. Gordon Eakin is in his ninth year at BYU and holds a record of 338-150. The Bruins lead the all-time series with the Cougars 2-0. The last time the teams met was on March 6, 2003 in Fresno, with the Bruins posting a 6-0 victory. The first meeting came on Feb. 16, 2002 in Las Vegas, a 10-2, five-inning UCLA win.

SCOUTING THE BAYLOR BEARS
Baylor is 16-1 after a home doubleheader sweep of Prairie View A&M on Tuesday. The Bears went 3-1 last weekend at their home tournament, beating Sam Houston State, Central Arkansas and Louisiana-Monroe, but dropping their first game of the year to Houston. Baylor is hitting .319 as a team with 13 home runs, averaging 5.2 runs per game. Seven different players are hitting above .300, led by freshman Holly Holl, who is hitting .438 with four RBI and four stolen bases. Senior Dani Leal leads the team with five homers and 11 RBI to go with a .395 average, while junior Kayce Walker is batting .370 with 10 stolen bases. In the circle, sophomore Whitney Canion is 6-1 with a 0.46 ERA and 76 strikeouts in 45 2/3 innings, sophomore Courtney Repka is 6-0 with a 0.84 ERA and 33 strikeouts in 41 2/3 innings and freshman Liz Paul is 4-0 with a 1.14 ERA and 23 strikeouts in 24 2/3 innings. Glenn Moore is in his 11th year at Baylor and has a record of 410-208. The Bruins have won two of three meetings with the Bears, but Baylor claimed a 7-5 victory last year at the Cathedral City Classic (Feb. 27). The Bruins won the first two meetings on Feb. 20, 2004 (9-0 in 5 innings) and Feb. 23, 2008 (6-1), both taking place in Cathedral City.

SCOUTING THE SAN DIEGO STATE AZTECS
The Aztecs are 6-7, going 1-4 last weekend at the Cathedral City Classic. San Diego State has dropped all six matchups against ranked teams this season, including an 8-2 loss at UCLA on Feb. 13. The Aztecs are hitting .253 as a team with six home runs, averaging 3.6 runs per game. Three players are batting over .300, led by sophomore Kamerin May, who is hitting .394 with a homer and five RBI. Senior Lindsey Marquez is batting .333 with four RBI and junior Justeen Maeva is hitting .323 with a home run and six RBI. In the circle, junior Bailey Micetich is 4-5 with a 3.26 ERA and 38 strikeouts in 38 2/3 innings, while senior Samantha Beasley is 1-2 with a 4.59 ERA and 38 strikeouts in 29 innings. Kathy Van Wyk is in her 15th year at San Diego State and has a record of 481-336-1. The Bruins lead the all-time series with the Aztecs 60-2 and have won 53 straight. Andrea Harrison had two homers and six RBI in the Bruins' win during the opening weekend at Easton Stadium. Donna Kerr struck out three and allowed two runs and five hits. UCLA is 17-1 at San Diego State. The Aztecs' only wins in the series were 2-1 triumphs in 1977 and 1978.

SCOUTING THE CAL POLY MUSTANGS
The Mustangs are 2-13 on the year after going 0-5 last weekend at the Cathedral City Classic. Cal Poly has had a tough schedule with 10 of its 13 losses coming against ranked teams. The Mustangs are hitting .229 as a team with 10 homers, averaging 3.0 runs per game. Freshman Kim Westlund is the lone player hitting over .300 at .327 with two RBI and three stolen bases. Senior Anna Cahn leads the team with five homers and 12 RBI, while in the circle, she is 1-4 with a 7.50 ERA and 36 strikeouts in 36 innings. Sophomore Rebecca Patton is 1-8 with a 7.97 ERA and 44 strikeouts in 55 1/3 innings. Jenny Condon is in her seventh year at Cal Poly and holds a record of 191-127. The Bruins are 24-3 all-time against the Mustangs and have won 17 straight matchups, including a doubleheader sweep in San Luis Obispo last year by scores of 5-3 and 4-1 (March 23). UCLA is 8-1 in neutral-site games against Cal Poly. The Mustangs' last win was a 1-0 triumph at home on April 6, 1997.
